Key Retrofit and Conversion Projects at Green Yard (2022–2025)
Oceanicasub VIII & IX – PSV to ROV Support Vessel Conversions (2022–2023)
Green Yard Kleven successfully converted two 80-meter platform supply vessels (PSVs) into advanced ROV support vessels for subsea inspection and intervention services. The retrofit included adding mezzanine decks for ROV operations, expanding crew accommodations, and refurbishing second-hand cranes, reducing the environmental footprint through reusing materials. These conversions demonstrated Green Yard’s ability to give older vessels new life while meeting the demanding needs of modern offshore operations.
Oceanicasub X & XI – AHTS to Subsea/ROV Vessel Conversions (2023–2024)
As part of a continued partnership with Oceanica, Green Yard Kleven converted two anchor-handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels into subsea support ships. The project involved installing new ROV launch systems, additional accommodation spaces, and updating all essential vessel systems. These retrofits maintained a strong focus on sustainability, with reused components and materials wherever possible. The vessels are now equipped for advanced subsea operations in challenging environments.
Oceanicasub XVII – AHTS to ROV Support Vessel Conversion (2025 ongoing)
Green Yard Kleven’s latest project with Oceanica involves the conversion of the Oceanicasub XVII, a 87-meter AHTS vessel, into a specialized ROV support vessel. The conversion includes the addition of ROV mezzanine decks, upgraded accommodations, and a complete overhaul of vessel systems to ensure its capabilities for deepwater subsea operations. This project prioritizes sustainability by reusing equipment and minimizing the use of new materials.
CS Vega II – Walk-to-Work Vessel to Cable Layer (2023–2024)
The CS Vega II underwent an extensive conversion at Green Yard Kleven to become a modern cable-laying vessel for subsea telecom cables. The retrofit included installing new cable-handling equipment, cranes, and a cable-lay system. Notably, the project saved significant CO₂ emissions by reusing the existing hull and equipment, making it an environmentally friendly alternative to building a new vessel. The CS Vega II now serves NTT World Engineering Marine, supporting critical subsea infrastructure projects.
Geoquip Silvretta – PSV to Geotechnical Drillship (2024–2025)
Green Yard Kleven is currently converting the Geoquip Silvretta, a platform supply vessel (PSV), into a geotechnical drillship for offshore site investigations. This retrofit involves the installation of a large drilling rig, new moonpool, and additional accommodation and laboratory spaces. The project emphasizes energy efficiency and sustainability, with a focus on reusing existing materials and integrating low-carbon technologies.
Ross Eagle – OSV to Subsea Survey/ROV Vessel (2024–2025, Feda)
At Green Yard Feda, the Ross Eagle, an offshore support vessel (OSV), is being converted for subsea survey and ROV operations. The project includes the addition of a heavy-duty A-frame, winch system, and ROV systems to support North Sea offshore wind and oil & gas projects. This conversion highlights Green Yard Feda’s ability to provide efficient and cost-effective retrofits that extend the service life of existing vessels.
